A ‘Thank You’ from the pastor

I participated with about 24 other United Methodists from around Western Pennsylvania as we completed the last leg of our 315-mile journey by bicycle from McKeesport, PA. to Washington D.C. just after dark on Friday, Oct. 4th. We started our trek on the Yough Trail at Boston United Methodist Church near McKeesport on Monday, Sept. 30th in the rain. During the journey, things heated up (96 degrees on the third day), but we enjoyed the scenery and camaraderie as we kept our goal in mind. Our goal was to raise money so any child who wanted to, can go to camp regardless of ability to pay. I thank you for your support! So far, you have raised $2,290 for camping!! The last few weeks during worship I have been wearing a robe in response to your donations.

Thank you again, and watch for the announcement that will come later about a “pig”!

Christmas In July

Let’s get a jump on Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child

This ministry is intended to meet the spiritual needs of children and their communities throughout the world. Simple gifts provide a door for children to begin to experience and hear about Jesus’ love.
All you need to do is grab a provided shoebox – a provided How to Pack a Shoebox/donation envelope – and start shopping for things that will fit in the box! You can choose to shop for a boy or girl in the age ranges of 2-4 years old, 5-9 or 10-14 years old and a $9 donation is asked to be included in each box. This donation can be done online if you would like to track where your box is sent (which is really fun to do!) or you can place the donation inside the box using the provided envelope.
Once the box is packed, please bring it back to the church. Sara Wiegel will take all boxes to the Oil City drop off location when they are set to ship out in November.
Gift ideas include stuffed animals, toy cars, jump ropes, toothbrushes, bar soap, pens, crayons, notebooks, socks, flashlights, etc.
Please DO NOT include candy, toothpaste, gum, used or damaged items, war-related items, seeds, food, liquids or lotions, medications or vitamins, breakable items or glass containers or aerosol cans.
Please pray over your box for the child who is going to receive it. You may also want to include a personal note and photo in your box which makes a large impact on the child who will receive this gift!! She or he may even write you back!!
